Brief description
We would like to add a new cryptocurrency course to our EdTech platform that focuses on topics such as DAOs, privacy, masternodes and mining and have the course sponsored by PIVX.
This course will be free for anyone to join and the purpose of the course will be to educate people about these topics and introduce them to PIVX.
Background on myself and Thutor:
I am the founder of an EdTech startup called Thutor that specializes in finance and crypto courses for university students.
You can see our current course offering on our home page (Thutor.co 1) and that we have an “Intro to crypto” course which is sponsored by another crypto, SmartCash. We are looking to expand our cryptocurrency courses to broaden our student’s understanding of the crypto universe.
We currently work with local universities in South Africa to provide courses focusing on accounting, investing, and auditing. We have so far over 1600 users and we are aiming to get to between 5000 and 10 000 by the end of the year.
Last month we created a Introduction to Cryptocurrencies course that is Sponsored by SmartCash. The course was really well received and students have requested that we expand our cypto course offering.
Before we get into the new course, here is what we did for the “Intro to cryptocurrencies " course.
What the “Introduction to cryptocurrency” course looked like:
We had 4 different topics that introduced students to cryptocurrencies to form a basic understanding. These were:
Topic 1 - The history of cryptocurrencies
Topic 2 - How cryptocurrencies work
Topic 3 - Why cryptocurrencies are important
Topic 4 - How to value cryptocurrencies
We integrated SmartCash into the topics each week so that students were learning about cryptocurrency ecosystem and getting introduced to SmartCash.
For the first month, wanted to have 100 students register over the course of the month. We have 106 registrations so we surpassed this goal.
In terms of prize winners, we had 24 unique students won the SmartCash prizes. We intentionally made the prizes randomized for students who got over 75% for the weekly quiz. We did this since we wanted to give as many new students an opportunity to win as possible.
The list of all the winners can be see on our Facebook page here:

What we are aiming to do with our new course
There is a lot of interest from students in continuing their learning about cryptocurrencies and we would like to introduce them to PIVX. We would like to different sponsor so we can introduce them to a new coin with new functionality.
I have been a fan of PIVX for a while and learnt about it from a friend back in April last year. I believe it will be a really great sponsor for the course given the topics we would like to cover.
Here is the list of topics we will cover:
  • What are decentralized autonomous organisations (DAOs)?
  • How do self-governed organisations function?
  • What is coin privacy and why is it important?
  • What are masternodes and how do they work?
  • Mining - Proof of work vs proof of stake
  • Investing in DAOs - Risks and opportunities
The structure of the course will be to have pre-set content for each topic that is accompanied by a quiz.
The new course will follow the same structure as we followed for the introduction to cryptocurrencies course. This means, each week, students who get 75% or above for an assignment stand a chance to win 12,5 worth of PIVX. We did this with SmartCash and it worked well because it allows for new winners every week.
What budget would be required:
We propose the following budget (this is the same budget as the “Intro to crypto” course budget):
Weekly prizes (7 students x 12,5 PIV x 4 weeks) = 350 PIV
Monthly marketing = 12,5 PIV x 4 weeks = 50 PIV
Course management and cotent creation =200 PIV
Total monthly cost = 600 PIV
Number of months = 2 months
Total course cost = 1200 PIV
'+ submission and activation fee reimbursals = 100 PIV
Total proposal budget = 1300 PIV
We would like to have a budget to cover two months of course development to allow us to build momentum and continuity in the course.
It is important to note that the majority of this budget actually goes directly to users in the form of prizes. Our marketing budget is also used on a student referral basis (1 PIV per friend signup and completed quiz) so the marketing is also putting PIVX directly in users hands.
How will this benefit PIVX:
  • The top students each week become invested in the coins they win. There have been a few winners who have asked how they can grow their PIVX holdings.
  • Because winners are educated about PIVX and cryptocurrencies generally, they become advocates for the coin.
What are the outcomes we wish to be measured on:
  • We want to have 200 registrations over the period of two months.
  • At least 40 unique winners (i.e. 40 different students getting over 75% for a quiz) of PIVX over a 2 month period
