Proposal:
This proposal asks for partial support for the full time translation project management efforts of Hanna (@hanna) so that translations can continue without losing any momentum.
Background:
In May of 2017, Grant (@grant) and myself (@eric_stanek) realized that as a community, PIVX was really ‘missing the boat’ when it came to communicating globally. Our main communication tool; the PIVX.org website, was in English only. Most of the crypto entusiasts in the world understand English, even though it may not be their native language. However, we want to see PIVX become a globally accepted everyday currency, used by all sorts of people and not just ‘techies’. Combine that with the fact that the subject matter is highly technical, and it immediately becomes obvious that www.PIVX.org absolutely needs to be written in the NATIVE language of those we want to reach.
We approached Chad (@rhubarbarian) and learned about the Polylang Wordpress plugin that facilitiates adding multiple languages to a website. At that point, we thought it would be a simple matter of finding people to translate, giving them some simple training and access to the Wordpress admin backend. Then Shazaam! The PIVX Swarm would add all the languages for us. We were so wrong. First of all, it becomes a security nightmare to give out that much access. Second, there is a huge amount of coordination required. Both Grant and I realized it was going to be a full time effort, and neither of us could commit to that.
In true JFDI form, Grant and I met for a coffee to discuss options to move forward. Shortly after that, we had a job posted at the local college for a Co-op student summer position, and agreed to split the costs. We had no idea we would be so lucky to find Hanna. She is a ‘mature’ student and already has a technical education, including a Masters Degree in Systems Engineering. While that means Hanna is over-qualified, it also means that she is incredibly capable, and extremely independant. Lucky for us, Hanna also loves what she does, enjoys working at TheCreativeSpace.ca and wants to continue to work for PIVX. In fact, from her work with the community, and watching it grow, Hanna firmly believes PIVX has a strong future, and now has some ‘skin in the game’. Hanna is absolutely motivated to do her best for PIVX.
However, Grant and I have made it clear that if Hanna is to continue to work for PIVX, she will need to submit her own proposals, and be supported 100% by the PIVX Community. Having said that, we do not feel that the monthly budget can justify that yet - and we want to see Hanna continue. As such, we will continue to ‘close the gap’ with our own financial support, but want to start a transition to her being funded by the PIVX community with this proposal.
Current Status:
Both Grant and I originally agreed to finance this position for Hanna for the Co-Op term only. That ends in just a few weeks on August 31, 2017.
Duration:
We feel that by the middle of October, we will have a firm grasp of what the next areas of focus will be for translations. As such, this proposal is for 2 months only. (Sep and Oct) A separate proposal will cover efforts for November and onward.
Effort:
Hanna works full-time on the PIVX translation project management.
This proposal will support completion of additional languages on PIVX.org such that we have more than even Bitcoin.org. It will also allow Hanna time to get a team in place for PIVXpress, and DYK subtitles to be released immediately with each episode and not weeks afterwards when they are ‘old news’. (I don’t think anyone else in crypto does this.) This is a high-value goal, since it sends the correct message to the global community that everyone is important and respected, regardless of their native language. They are not an ‘after-thought’. It will also allow time to get the multi-lingual Slack team auto-inviter interface complete. (Separate project - not yet public - but requires translation support.) Many of the awesome ads that Chad created will also be translated.
Funding:
This proposal asks for 650 PIV per month, for 2 months. Based on current rates, this works out to less than minimum wage. As mentioned above, Grant and/or I will continue to ‘close the gap’ between what Hanna is paid, and the PIV received from this proposal, for this ‘transition’ period. The next proposal hopefully will require no additional support and will be independent of any 3rd party funding.
Payment:
The 2 fees of 50 PIV each for this proposal will be paid by myself. I am not asking for a refund of those from this proposal. All of the monthly payment of 650 PIV for 2 months will be used to pay for Hanna’s services.
Future:
For those of you that have not seen the ‘Marketing Map’ from Chad yet, it is shown below.

What we expect starting immediately after this proposal completes, is for Hanna to be leading a translation team that handles more and more of each of the areas shown in the ‘Marketing Map’. It is a tremendous amount of work to manage this and in a separate proposal Hanna will submit in October, she will detail those plans.
Conclusion:
There is a TON of work being done by the PIVX Community. We can leverage that effort dramatically if we can continuously have it translated into multiple languages, communicating a consistent PIVX message to the world. However, it takes signficant effort, excellent project management skills and dedication to PIVX. Hanna has already proven she can do this well, and we need her to continue if we want PIVX to grow globally. PIVX needs to pass this proposal with a strong YES vote.
