Hi everyone,

We'd like to introduce PIVXie, a self-custodial PIVX wallet for Android and desktop. It brings SHIELD, cold staking, masternodes, governance voting and PIVX names together in one app. It doesn't need a full node on your phone, and your keys never leave your device.

Version 1.2.0 is out now on Google Play and GitHub, for Android, Linux, Windows and macOS. The iOS version is on its way to the App Store.

Why we built it

We wanted a native PIVX wallet for phones that does more than send and receive. Staking, running masternodes and voting on proposals should all work from the phone in your pocket, just as well as on a desktop. We also wanted it to stay simple for someone who has only just got their first PIV.

PIVXie follows MyPIVXWallet and PIVX Core wherever it can. Your MyPIVXWallet recovery phrase opens the same wallet in PIVXie, shield balance and extra accounts included.

Your keys stay with you

  • Your recovery phrase and keys are created and stored only on your device.
  • There's no account to create and no sign-up. Nobody else can move your coins.
  • PIVXie never holds your coins. It doesn't exchange crypto or handle cash or bank payments.

Please keep your recovery phrase written down somewhere safe. Whoever has it controls your coins, and nobody, the PIVXie team included, can restore it for you.

What you can do with PIVXie

SHIELD

  • Shield, unshield and send PIV privately, with an optional encrypted memo.
  • Shield all moves your whole transparent balance into SHIELD with one tap.
  • Shield notes are decrypted on your device. The server streams the chain's shield data, the same data for everyone, and never gets your viewing key.
  • Shield sync is fast. PIVXie reads a compact stream with only the parts a wallet needs, about a sixth of the full data.

Cold staking

  • Delegate your PIV to a staker and receive staking rewards while the coins stay in your wallet.
  • The easiest way is a staker run by masternode.space: no server to rent and no technical setup. Your own node works too.
  • Undelegate whenever you like.

Masternodes

  • Set up a masternode from the wallet: send the 10,000 PIV collateral, generate or paste the masternode key, and start it.
  • Don't want to run a server? PIVXie shows the three values masternode.space needs to host the masternode for you. Your collateral never leaves your wallet.
  • Already have a masternode running, for example after restoring a wallet? Add it as an existing masternode. PIVXie records it and freezes its collateral so it isn't spent by accident.
  • Follow each masternode's status (Pre-enabled, Enabled) and its rewards.

Governance

  • Browse past, current and future budget proposals. See the budget still available, whether each proposal is passing, and when payments arrive.
  • Vote Yes or No on a proposal with all your masternodes at once. Each vote is signed on your device with that masternode's key.
  • Submit your own proposal. PIVXie pays the 50 PIV proposal fee and submits the proposal to the network once the fee transaction has enough confirmations.

PIVX Name

PIVX names come from PIVX.name, a naming service separate from PIVXie. PIVXie lets you use them right from the wallet:

  • Pay to a name like alice.pivx instead of a long address. PIVXie checks where the name points before you send.
  • Register your own name (.pivx, .private, .secure or .safe) and point it to any SHIELD address, yours or someone else's. Change where it points whenever you like. People keep paying the same name.
  • Give a name to someone else, or list it on the PIVX.name marketplace, where you can also buy names from others.
  • Your names belong to your recovery phrase, so the same phrase opens them on PIVX.name too.

PIVX.name runs the names, and its own rules and fees apply.

Everyday use

  • Scan QR codes and open pivx: payment links.
  • Address book and coin control: pick, freeze and label individual coins.
  • Sign and verify messages.
  • A clear history. Staking rewards, masternode rewards, proposal payments, delegations and SHIELD transactions are labelled, and you can filter by each kind. Rewards show how many confirmations are left until they mature.
  • Several accounts from one recovery phrase. Restoring a phrase brings back every account with history as its own wallet.
  • Watch-only wallets from an extended public key (xpub).
  • View-only wallets from a SHIELD viewing key, such as the one PIVX.name publishes. You can give a birthday block so the scan doesn't start at the beginning of SHIELD.

Privacy and security

  • Tor: optionally route every connection through Tor, built into the app.
  • Two modes: Easy Crypto shows values in your currency and the 24h price change from CoinGecko. Incognito makes no third-party price lookups at all. You can switch at any time in Settings.
  • No ads, no analytics, no tracking.
  • Locks: PIN or biometric unlock, and a password on desktop.
  • Duress PIN: opens PIVXie showing only the wallets you choose.
  • Phone protections:
    • Screenshots are off by default.
    • Copied recovery phrases and keys are marked as sensitive, so Android hides them in the copy preview and keyboards leave them out of their clipboard history.
    • Wallets aren't copied to a new phone or into Android's cloud backup.
    • The QR scanner sends no usage statistics.
  • Explorer links: PIVXie warns you before opening a block explorer outside the app.

Backups and restoring

  • Restore with a 12- or 24-word recovery phrase, with an optional passphrase. Recovery phrases from MyPIVXWallet work too.
  • Make encrypted backups of all your wallets and settings, and turn on Auto Backup to keep one up to date on a schedule.

How it connects: pivx-bridge

PIVXie doesn't run a full node on your phone. It talks to a pivx-bridge server, which sits next to a PIVX full node and serves light wallets. pivx-bridge was started by PIVX Labs for MyPIVXWallet. Our open-source fork (MIT license) adds what a full mobile wallet needs:

  • Transparent history: balances and UTXOs for addresses and accounts, from its own address index. PIVXie needs no separate block explorer.
  • Live updates: changes show up within about 2 seconds of a new block or a mempool transaction that touches your addresses.
  • Faster shield sync: a compact shield stream.
  • Sapling proving parameters: served from the same server.
  • Masternodes and governance: starting masternodes, relaying votes and submitting proposals through its whitelisted RPC proxy.

By default PIVXie connects to two PIVXie bridges, one in Europe and one in the US.

  • It picks the faster one and moves to the other if yours stops answering. If you chose the server yourself, it asks first.
  • It tells you when you're offline and syncs again as soon as you're back.

Running your own bridge. You can switch to your own pivx-bridge at any time in Settings > Manage nodes. Test connection and Test all show each server's answer time and signal. Setup instructions, a systemd unit and an nginx sample are in the repository: https://github.com/alexxiy/pivx-bridge

What a bridge can see. For your transparent balance, the wallet asks the bridge for your account's history, so the bridge sees your transparent addresses, as any explorer-based wallet's server does. Our bridges never log client IPs or the addresses wallets look up. Your SHIELD side stays on your device. To hide your IP address too, turn on Tor or use your own bridge.

13 languages

PIVXie follows your phone's language, or you can pick one in Settings. It's available in English, German, Spanish, Portuguese, Turkish, Azerbaijani, Russian, Belarusian, Ukrainian, Vietnamese, Chinese, Korean and Japanese.

Downloads

PlatformWhere
AndroidGoogle Play, or an APK from GitHub (arm64-v8a, armeabi-v7a, x86_64 or universal)
Linux x86_64 and arm64Flatpak, AppImage or tarball from GitHub
Windows x64ZIP from GitHub
macOS (Apple silicon and Intel)ZIP from GitHub
iOSComing soon to the App Store

A few notes:

  • Android APKs: not sure which APK to pick? The universal APK works on every device.
  • Linux: the AppImage and the tarball need glibc 2.39 or newer on x86_64 (Ubuntu 24.04, Fedora 40, Debian 13 or later) and glibc 2.35 or newer on arm64. On older systems, use the Flatpak: install the downloaded file with flatpak install --user, then start it with flatpak run alexxiy.pivxie.PIVXie.
  • Windows and macOS: these builds aren't signed yet.
    • On Windows, click More info, then Run anyway when SmartScreen warns you.
    • On macOS, open System Settings > Privacy & Security and click Open Anyway next to PIVXie.

Checking your download. SHA256SUMS on the release page lists the SHA-256 of every file. Run sha256sum -c --ignore-missing SHA256SUMS in the folder with your downloads; on macOS, use shasum -a 256 instead of sha256sum. The Android APKs on GitHub are signed with the certificate whose SHA-256 is:

60:D0:9F:10:EC:DC:DD:BD:85:71:10:FD:93:CB:94:6D:BC:B9:07:F1:C4:AD:D1:E0:26:45:7C:E3:DD:C9:39:E9

Open source and credits

PIVXie is open source under the GPLv3 license: https://github.com/alexxiy/PIVXie

It stands on the shoulders of others, and we're grateful to them:

  • Stack Wallet by Cypher Stack is the base of the app.
  • MyPIVXWallet and PIVX Core are the references for all PIVX logic.
  • pivx-shield by PIVX Labs is what the SHIELD code ports to Rust, so it runs natively on phones and desktops.
  • pivx-bridge, also by PIVX Labs, is the base of our server.

Thank you to PIVX Labs and the whole PIVX community for building the pieces this wallet is made of.

Fuel PIVXie

PIVXie is free, with no ads and no fees of its own. If you'd like to support it, open More > Fuel PIVXie in the wallet. You can send a tip from your shielded or transparent balance and add a cheers message; it goes to the PIVX name alexxiy.pivx. It's entirely optional, and every tip is appreciated.

What's next

  • The iOS version on the App Store.
  • Signed Windows and macOS builds.
  • Whatever you tell us is missing. Your feedback decides what comes next.
