What's new

New Website

Someone needs to make a new site that multiple people understand, that has rss feeds so the news, posts, tweets etc are picked up that is easily switched to multiple language.
Elaborate for us so we can get an idea on how to achieve the goal! What do you mean by “multiple people understand” I assume keep it simple stupid? I like the RSS feed idea for our content as it starts to grow, language wise we need to work on translators I believe.

@Eric_Stanek I think a search is a very good idea.

Apparently the site is so coded in a way people are struggling to change things so the chatter is anyway

@Hawtch has this proposal been discussed?
Hey Gerrald. Thanks for tagging me.

My bad - the forum isn’t the place I check as much. Thanks for bringing this up - I will make a point to jump on here more. Lots of places to be :)

I agree that this could be really beneficial for our site. I’ve talked with a couple people about this and I think our best option is to either figure out how to migrate this into grav forms so we can use a CMS to edit it, or hire someone to create a new site from scratch. This will require hiring a specialist either way. I have wanted to reach out to the Grav Forms community and see if we could find someone to help us out. Haven’t had the chance but if anyone in PIVX wants to head it up that would be a huge help!

If we decide to hire a web designer from scratch, I see us as having two choices:

1. Make new site with new design:
- Much more work and cost but probably way less of a pain in the long run.
- We will have the opportunity to reimagine it in a more lean, UX- friendly way (this includes the RSS feed and other comments made above).

2. Migrate to a CMS that can automatically build the existing one:
- This might take a while to find the right person for the job.
- Probably quicker and more affordable.
- Migration to a new CMS might cause some unforeseen problems with errors, syncing problems, and any sort of custom code already on our site.

I’m not entirely sure where @Meerkat is at with their work load, but I think they are pretty busy most of the time. Love to get them to weigh in on this as well.

I love the look of our current site. I just want to see more functionality and a system that is easier for people to edit and maintain.

If that is the route we decide to go, it probably should be @Meerkat that takes the lead on it. But, it is a huge project and she is overloaded with tasks as it is.

I know how I would tackle the issue, but others can do it, and I already did the project management for the v1.0 and v2.0 versions of PIVX.org.

I should add, that the reason I suggested @Meerkat take the lead, is because Grav CMS, which is the framework we are thinking is best, is also based on the Symfony PHP framework, and it uses Twig files too.

We have not figured out how to best handle multiple languages yet though, and I think there was another hurdle, but I don't recall.

I can't take it on for a while yet. I still have lots of stuff to design, code and fix. I know it's urgent but there is a lot of stuff that is waiting in line for my attention in PIVX Core and in PIVX Labs. I will get to it eventually I just need to continue check stuff off of my to-do list and eventually we'll get to the subject of PIVX.org website.

I agree that we need to migrate it to some other system but I think we need to rethink the website. Me and Kyeno were both very unhappy with the structure of the content on the website and had a lot of unresolved conflicts about it with Chris who was responsible for it in the beginning of v2.0. And I would like to revamp the structure, rewrite some of the content and redesign the website to better serve especially new crypto users (newbies), but also crypto pros. It will be again a massive project, but now we have a better understanding of the needs that are met with current website and those that are yet to be fulfilled. I would like to work on it with @Hawtch and @sh_rn because they have a good knowledgebase and understanding of the crypto world and can help with restructuring, rewrite of the content and the redesign. But we will need to include someone who can handle the backend of the website also. I can handle the design and some of the front-end (HTML/CSS, I have no JavaScript skills 😒), mobile optimization and content input in Twig/YAML. I can also try to manage the creation or at least help with it but that decision I will leave to you all.

Thank you for your patience and understanding. 💜
